About the postdoctoral Opportunity
A joint research project between UM6P and the MIT Institute for Data, Systems, and Society (IDSS) is being conducted with the objective of helping the African farmers to increase
their production and profits with better prediction tools. In this project a wide range of activities including farm typology, developing of crop yield prediction model for water-limited
areas; development of weather prediction model and building an economic model of multiple stakeholders, will be implemented. The successful candidate will be recruited for two years and be
attached to the scientific multi-disciplinary team of CESFRA where he or she will be engaged in research activities on farm typology and building of a crop yield simulation model.
Key duties :
Successful candidates are expected to:
Conduct field survey to collect relevant bio-physical and socio-economic farm data
Undertake robust farm level modelling and farm typology
Build a crop yield simulation model that will be applicable to the water-limited environment
Test and validate the models developed using field experiments
Prepare a technical report and submit it to the project principal investigator on a timely manner and
Publish the results in scientific peer reviewed journals
Qualified applicants should have the following skills:
Ph.D. in crop science or soil science or land evaluation and other related fields
Proven skills in modelling
Experience in using GIS and RS softwares
Sound skill in advanced statistics and numerical simulation
High motivation and interest in scientific work
Excellent command of English and French and
